For the second time in three years, Ascendi has been  presented with a CIO Award, a competition created by IDC Portugal to distinguish projects in the areas of information technology and communication, with a strong impact on national organizations.

Ascendi received the award in recognition of the technological and business value associated with its Implementation of Embedded Technology in Mobile Surveillance Brigades for Toll Collection Project.

The technological solution includes:

• Automatically identify vehicles with notifications for non-payment of tolls;
• Identification, acceptance and registration of the payment in respect of the notifications through several in-person payment methods;
• Operational coordination and management of the activity of the MSB, from the back-office, using online information, geo-referenced (GPS incorporated in mobile terminals), of the tasks performed by each Brigade; and
• Consolidation and periodical reporting of the Brigades’ activity.

The project was developed in partnership with Accenture.

This is the second time Ascendi has been awarded this prize in 3 years of existence of the CIO Awards.   The first award was granted in 2011 with the project implementation of the Multi-Lane-Free-Flow Toll Collection System.

The CIO Awards project was created by IDC Portugal to highlight innovation in Portuguese public and private entities, through the use of information technology and communication, in projects that add value to the business /organizations.

Every year IDC Portugal selects 10 projects that meet these characteristics. The other organisations selected were: Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira, Banco Best, Câmara Municipal de Cascais, Efacec Capital, Instituto de Construção e Imobiliário, Instituto Geográfico do Exército, Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto, PT PRO and Zon.
